The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Ibizan Hound has a very slender body, long legs and large, mobile ears. Its narrow head, light eyes and flesh-coloured nose are distinctive. Hair may be short and smooth or rough, most often red and white or either colour alone. Movement is light, fast and exceptionally agile.
It originates in the Balearic Islands, where it is called ca eivissenc. Dogs chiefly hunted rabbits, including those concealed in thick vegetation. Hearing, scent and sight all contributed, while agility allowed movement over difficult ground. Resemblance to ancient dog depictions inspired origin stories but does not establish an unbroken lineage from ancient Egypt.
It usually watches its surroundings carefully and reacts rapidly to movement. Independent, it can become absorbed in an interesting stimulus rather than its handler. With familiar people it may be affectionate and cheerful, while new situations can prompt caution. Sensitivity and energy show in rapid transitions from quiet rest to intense activity.
