Olde English Bulldogge — size comparison — facts and sources

The Olde English Bulldogge is a powerful, muscular dog with a broad head and short hair. It has a well-developed chest, strong legs and a characteristically shortened muzzle. Its build is more athletic than the modern English Bulldog's. It should move freely and nimbly while retaining proportions appropriate to a strong medium-sized dog.

The breeding programme began in the United States in 1971. It aimed to recreate the appearance of the more capable early nineteenth-century bulldog with a temperament suitable for companionship. The result was a modern breed rather than an uninterrupted surviving population of historical dogs. The United Kennel Club recognised it in 2014.

It is described as confident, friendly and alert. It readily engages in contact and play, sometimes behaving expressively and energetically. It should be comfortable in familiar surroundings without excessive fearfulness. Strong attachment to close people can coexist with careful observation of events around the home.
