The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Mudi is a medium-sized sheepdog with upright ears, a wedge-shaped head and a light, athletic build. Body hair is wavy or curly, while the muzzle and fronts of the legs have shorter hair. This contrast creates a distinctive, slightly tousled appearance. Fast and agile, it can change direction abruptly without losing balance.
The breed developed in Hungary during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries from local herding dogs, probably with contributions from German erect-eared sheepdogs. A versatile farm helper, it worked with sheep and larger livestock and guarded the farmstead. Practical usefulness long shaped breeding, making courage, endurance and rapid learning important alongside appearance.
Mudis notice small changes around them and often announce them vocally. Active and quick to learn, they engage deeply in tasks, especially with people. They rapidly recognise repeated signals and anticipate what comes next. They may be more cautious with strangers than with familiar people. They can sustain concentration while moving quickly to the next activity.
