The golden-rumped sengi has a pronounced golden rump patch above an area of thicker skin. Golden forehead hairs contrast with dark limbs and body sides. It lives in pairs and uses the forest floor for daily feeding.

Its mobile nose moves litter aside to find insects, spiders, earthworms and other invertebrates. Active by day, it spends the night in a sheltered leaf nest. Disturbance may cause tail drumming; greater danger also prompts flight and sounds associated with hind-leg movements.
