The green ringtail possum is a tree-dwelling marsupial of the wet forests of northeastern Australia. Its olive-green fur results from a combination of different colours on individual hairs. Paler longitudinal stripes are visible on the back, with pale patches below the eyes and beside the ears.
It feeds mostly at night, selecting leaves; it occasionally also eats ripe fruit. By day it may sleep in a tree fork, curling into a compact ball and gripping the support with its feet. Its prehensile tail has a strong base and helps it maintain position. When feeding it uses its front paws to hold a detached leaf.
