African striped weasel — size comparison — facts and sources

The African striped weasel has a slender black body with pale longitudinal stripes and a white tail. Short legs and an elongated body help it pursue prey in narrow retreats.

It is a predator active largely at night. It uses burrows it digs itself or takes over from other animals. It may store prey in its retreat, and hunting involves mainly searching for rodents and other small vertebrates. Smell is important in tracking food. It can climb but usually travels near the ground and through underground passages. When threatened it may release a strong-smelling substance and erect the hairs of its tail.
