Black colobus — size comparison — facts and sources
The black colobus stands out among colobus monkeys for lacking white fringes to its fur. It lives mainly high in forest canopies and rarely comes to the ground. It is active by day but spends much of its time resting quietly between feeding periods. It forms groups containing males, females and young.
Loud calls help announce its presence to neighbouring groups. Seeds and nuts occupy an important place in its diet alongside fruit and leaves. Broad molar surfaces help crush hard food. It walks on all four limbs along branches and leaps between trees.
