The bald uakari has long, pale fur, a bare red face and a short, non-prehensile tail. It is a diurnal primate associated with forests that may flood seasonally. Older uakari accounts also included forms separated as distinct species in more recent works.
It obtains fruit in tree crowns, and powerful teeth help open hard coverings to reach seeds. It supplements its food with leaves, nectar and insects. The larger community may divide into smaller feeding parties. It walks on all four limbs along branches but can also leap. It spends the night high in trees.
