Darwin’s frog — size comparison — facts and sources

Darwin’s frog is a small amphibian of humid Chilean and Argentine forests. Its triangular head ends in an elongated, pointed snout. The back may be brown or green, while pale patches decorate the dark underside. It hunts insects and other small arthropods.

The female lays eggs on damp ground. After hatching, the male takes tadpoles into a specially adapted vocal sac. Offspring remain there through further development and metamorphosis, then leave their father’s mouth as small frogs.
