The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Miniature Poodle has a light, balanced outline, an elongated muzzle and long ears covered in curly hair. It is larger than the Toy and smaller than the Medium variety. Dense curls cover the body, allowing different trims to change appearance considerably. It moves briskly and springily and readily joins active games.
It comes from the same breeding tradition as other Poodles, whose ancestors retrieved waterfowl. Smaller varieties developed as companion dogs grew popular. Similar proportions, distinctive hair and learning ability were retained. In the FCI classification, Miniature, Standard, Medium and Toy Poodles are one breed, differing chiefly in size.
It is usually quick to learn, sociable and highly observant. It rapidly remembers which behaviours prompt a human response and readily uses that knowledge. It enjoys scent tasks, simple tricks and games requiring dexterity. It may be watchful about sounds and newcomers, especially near home. Relationships are often intense, involving shared activities and clear invitations for contact.
