The Medium Poodle lies between Miniature and Standard sizes. It retains a slender muzzle, long hanging ears and a balanced, agile body. Dense hair forms curls, and length and clipping strongly affect appearance. Movement reveals a springy stride and easy changes of direction.
Its history is shared with other Poodles. Ancestors retrieved waterfowl, and the Barbet was a close relative. A distinct Poodle type gradually emerged, with companionship becoming increasingly important. Breeders established different sizes while preserving similar proportions and coat type. Under the FCI standard, Medium Poodles share a standard with the other three varieties.
They are usually lively, observant and strongly interested in their owner’s activities. They enjoy games involving searching, retrieving or a learned sequence. They quickly recognise routines and may anticipate the next human action. Despite their willingness to cooperate, they remain inventive and sometimes suggest their own solutions. They respond sensitively to the household atmosphere, seeking contact and clear signals.
