The Miniature Labradoodle is a smaller type of dog descended from Labrador and Poodle crosses. It may have a wavy, curly or straighter coat, and body proportions depend on the particular line. 'Miniature' categorises size within a breeding programme or registry but does not establish one universally accepted breed standard.
The Labradoodle's popularity is linked to an Australian attempt to produce a guide dog meeting a recipient's particular needs. Companion dogs were later developed, including smaller lines involving small Poodles. First crosses and populations bred over many generations both occur. Their ancestry is not always identical, so the history of the whole group cannot precisely describe every dog offered under this name.
Many Miniature Labradoodles are active, curious and enjoy staying close to people. They may show strong interest in play, retrieving and scent searches. Openness to strangers, sensitivity and energy levels remain individual qualities. Neither coat type nor the proportion of Poodle ancestry guarantees that a dog will not shed.
