The Medium Labradoodle is an intermediate-sized type of Labrador and Poodle cross. Some individuals have fairly strong bodies and broad muzzles; others are more slender and longer-legged. Coats may form waves, curls or remain less curled. The medium category's boundaries depend on the registry or breeding programme, so the name alone does not prescribe identical proportions.
The Labradoodle's rise in popularity began with Australian work on a guide dog for a recipient with particular needs. Breeding later expanded towards family dogs, developing different sizes and multigenerational lines. The shared term covers varied pedigrees; not every line is a simple first-generation Labrador-Poodle cross. There is also no single FCI standard covering this group.
Medium Labradoodles often willingly join household activities, play and seek contact. Some show a strong enjoyment of retrieving; others greater independence or environmental sensitivity. Size does not determine character, and crossing two breeds cannot guarantee a particular combination of traits. This applies to behaviour as well as shedding and the appearance of the adult coat.
