The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Kuvasz is a large white dog with a powerful body, wedge-shaped head and dense, often wavy coat. Longer hair on the neck, thighs and tail gives it an imposing appearance, while the head and fronts of the legs are distinctly shorter-haired. A dark nose, eyelids and lips should contrast with the pale coat. In movement the Kuvasz is more agile than its size suggests.
It is one of Hungary's traditional flock-guarding breeds. Its ancestors are associated with dogs that reached the Carpathian Basin with the Magyars, although the earliest stages of that history cannot be reconstructed precisely. Kuvasz dogs protected livestock against predators and thieves and were also used in hunting. As traditional pastoralism declined, they increasingly guarded farms and homes.
The Kuvasz is courageous and deeply attached to familiar people. It usually treats strangers cautiously, and unusual events can quickly attract its attention. It can assess situations independently and does not always seek its handler's confirmation before reacting. With those close to it, it can be affectionate and often accompanies them quietly while watching events around it.
