King Shepherd — size comparison — facts and sources

The King Shepherd is a large, muscular dog with erect ears and a broad, strong head. It has a slightly elongated body, a deep chest and a densely haired tail. Shorter- and longer-haired varieties occur. Its size attracts attention, but the club standard also requires free trotting and harmonious proportions.

It was developed in the United States as a separate large-shepherd breeding project. Its organisations established registration rules and descriptions of the desired type. It is not an official size variety of the German Shepherd. The programme combined family companionship with working usefulness, particularly watchfulness around people and their surroundings.

Desired temperament includes confidence, attentiveness and willingness to cooperate. It should be relaxed and sociable among familiar people and composed in new situations. It enjoys tasks involving shared activity. Vigilance may appear as watching strangers and responding to environmental changes, but the breed description does not assume constant suspicion towards everyone encountered.
