The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The granulated ground beetle inhabits mainly open areas: meadows, fallows and fields, as well as forest clearings and openings. The first antennal segment is usually red, although exceptions occur.
It eats snails, earthworms, insect larvae and other invertebrates, also using carrion. It moves over the ground and among plants, finding food and cover. Adults are observed from spring to autumn and are the overwintering stage.
Notches near the ends of the wing cases are useful in distinguishing it from similar ground beetles, especially in females. The shade of its metallic surface alone is insufficient for species identification.
