Median wasp — size comparison — facts and sources
The median wasp lives near water, in open woodland, in clearings and close to buildings. Workers are black and yellow, often with extensive black on the abdomen and relatively narrow pale bands.
Adults visit sweet food sources, including nectar and fruit, and also catch insects. They supply animal food to the larvae developing in the nest.
The paper nest may be placed on shrubs and other sheltered supports above the ground. Workers cooperate in maintaining the nest and feeding the larvae; a large colony may contain around five hundred of them.
