Green dock weevil — size comparison — facts and sources

Lixus pulverulentus inhabits sunny woodland edges, meadows, roadsides and ditches in Europe. It occurs at both dry and wetter sites. Its elongated body is cylindrical, and fresh individuals often have an intense yellow-brown powdery coating. The rostrum is strong and slightly downcurved.

Adults use flowers and green parts of various plants, including mallows and some members of the daisy family. Larvae feed inside stems, especially wild mallows. Adults overwinter, and active individuals can be observed from late spring into summer.

Older material uses the name Lixus angustatus. Surface wear affects colour intensity, so an individual with less coating need not belong to another species.
