The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The buff-tailed bumblebee visits flowers in meadows, gardens and other places offering nectar and pollen. Workers collect food for a seasonal colony.
A queen founds the colony, initially raising offspring alone. The first workers take over foraging and some brood care. Males and new queens appear towards the end of the cycle; young queens can overwinter and establish new nests.
Workers are smaller than queens and may be difficult to distinguish from similar bumblebee species. Tail colour alone does not always permit confident identification.
