The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The short-winged conehead inhabits wet European grasslands. Its green body sides blend well with vegetation, and a darker stripe runs along its back. The wings are short and do not extend far along the abdomen.
It eats grasses and small insects, including aphids and caterpillars. Adults occur in summer and autumn, often in dense clumps where they are difficult to detect without carefully examining the vegetation.
The female has a distinctly curved ovipositor for laying eggs. The similar long-winged conehead has longer wings and a straighter ovipositor, so both features should be considered together during identification.
