Asian mud dauber — size comparison — facts and sources

The Asian mud dauber originates in Asia and now also occurs in Europe, where it often uses buildings. It can be found by walls, in attics and in other sheltered corners. It has an extremely narrow, long section connecting the thorax and abdomen, with pale markings on a dark body.

The female builds separate nest cells from mud and provisions them with paralysed spiders. These provide food for the larva developing inside the sealed chamber.

Adults feed on nectar and honeydew. The species does not form a large worker colony like those of social wasps.
