The Yakutian horse was shaped by natural and working selection in northern and central Siberia. It has a large head, short neck, low withers, broad long back, exceptionally deep chest, short powerful legs and compact hooves.
Winter brings very dense hair, a long mane and tail. It finds vegetation beneath snow, allowing feeding through Siberian winters.
