Welsh Cob (Section D) — size comparison — facts and sources

The Welsh Cob has a refined head with small ears but a strong, deep body and powerful limbs. An abundant mane and tail emphasise the outline. Movement is energetic, free and often high-stepping, especially at the trot.

It forms Section D of the Welsh studbook, combining native Welsh pony traits with greater height and considerable working strength. The section includes horses over 137.2 cm without an upper height limit, retaining pony head and expression.

It is usually intelligent, lively and determined. It willingly moves forward, responds quickly and works persistently. Strength and an impressive trot are valued in driving; athleticism also permits ridden sport, trekking and leisure.
