Oldenburg — size comparison — facts and sources
The Oldenburg has a large, balanced outline, long neck and strong muscles. The modern sporting type has elastic movement and developed hindquarters. Individual lines vary with specialisation.
It is associated with Germany’s Oldenburg region. Modern breeding chiefly develops a riding horse capable of sustained sporting work. Separate selection directions emphasise dressage or jumping.
Dressage lines value ground-covering rhythmic gaits, active hind legs and easy balance. Jumping lines are also assessed for take-off, technique and willingness over obstacles. The horse should be cooperative, attentive to aids and energetic enough to develop sporting abilities.
