Namib horses · free-living population — size comparison — facts and sources

Namib horses form a naturalised population living in a desert environment. They descend from domestic horses, although the herd’s exact origins are not fully understood. Water and vegetation availability limit life in the dry landscape. This is a free-living herd of domestic ancestry rather than a breed maintained to one uniform standard.
