The Marwari is distinguished by long, inward-curving ears whose tips can approach each other. It has a refined head, a high-carried neck and a lean, enduring build, usually with the proportions of a riding horse.
It comes from the Marwar region of Rajasthan in India. The breed developed in hot, dry conditions where endurance and the ability to travel long distances mattered. It retained a distinct type and its characteristic ear shape.
Marwari horses are often alert, intelligent and responsive to their surroundings. They can be attentive to familiar handlers. Today they are used for riding, sport and displays, and retain a distinctive cultural place in Indian equestrian traditions.
