Mangalarga Marchador — size comparison — facts and sources

The Mangalarga Marchador has a strong, proportionate body, triangular head and large dark eyes. A well-set neck and solid legs create a practical outline without heaviness. Medium-sized, it is bred chiefly for comfortable riding.

It comes from Brazil. Breeding focuses on endurance, a gentle temperament and the natural marcha gait. Two main forms, marcha batida and marcha picada, differ in limb support patterns and timing.

Usually active, cooperative and enduring, it is valued on long rides for maintaining a smooth rhythm that reduces the rider's sway. Uses include trail riding, leisure and gait competitions. Riding comfort and willingness to cover distance evenly are both important.
