The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Hackney Horse has a high-carried head, a strong, arched neck and well-sprung ribs. Sloping shoulders and muscular hindquarters support energetic movement. Its most recognisable feature is a high, regular trot with pronounced limb flexion.
The breed was developed in Britain as an elegant harness horse combining endurance with active movement. The Hackney Horse Society separates horses and ponies by height: animals above 14 hands, approximately 142 cm, belong to the horse section.
The Hackney is usually alert, lively and quick to respond to its handler's signals. In harness, rhythm, straight limb action and the ability to sustain an energetic pace are valued. Its distinctive movement has closely associated the breed with shows and driving competitions.
