The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Exmoor Pony has a broad forehead, large eyes with prominent protective eyelids and a pale, mealy muzzle. Its deep body rests on short, powerful legs with dark hooves. In winter it develops a dense, two-layered coat that withstands wet conditions well.
It originates in southwestern England and retains the type of native moorland ponies. The standard does not permit white markings. Pale areas around the muzzle and eyes are natural colour lightening, distinct from the white markings found in many other breeds.
The Exmoor is usually alert, energetic and independent. It responds attentively to its surroundings and moves skilfully over uneven terrain. Today it is used for trail riding and conservation grazing. Small stature, thriftiness and the ability to use poorer vegetation matter in maintaining open habitats.
