The Purebred Spanish Horse, or PRE, has a strong, arched neck, a compact body and rounded hindquarters. An abundant mane and tail emphasise its baroque appearance. Movement often draws attention through an elevated forehand and the ability to shorten the stride while retaining energy.
The breed developed in Spain, with its history as a valued court horse extending to the sixteenth century. Pura Raza Española means Purebred Spanish Horse and refers to a specific studbook maintained by ANCCE. Andalusian is the more widely familiar name for this Iberian type.
PRE horses usually combine energy with close attention to the rider. They respond quickly to aids and readily learn precise tasks. They are valued in dressage, groundwork, displays and leisure riding. Their capacity for collection supports exercises requiring weight transfer to the hindquarters and controlled movement.
