The Grand Anglo-Français Blanc et Orange is a strong dog with long legs, short hair and drooping ears. Orange or paler yellowish patches mark its white background. It has a substantial head and deep chest. Its build reflects sustained running rather than short bursts in confined spaces.
The breed arose in France from crosses between local hounds and English Foxhound-type dogs. The aim was a capable pack hound for prolonged hunting work. Like other large Anglo-French hounds, it combines two breeding traditions.
It is active, enduring and strongly interested in trails. Outdoors it readily begins searching and may remain engaged for a long time. Working among other hounds requires responses both to scent and to signals from the group. Hunting excitement also finds expression in a carrying voice that helps locate the dog from afar.
