Gos Rater Valencià — size comparison — facts and sources
The Gos Rater Valencià is a small, agile dog with short hair and large, upright ears. It has a light head, dark eyes and slender, strong legs. White body areas with black and tan markings are common. It moves quickly, its whole body showing readiness when something attracts its attention.
Dogs of this type are documented in the Valencia region from the final third of the nineteenth century. Development was linked to farms and orange groves, where rodent control and warning of strangers were valued. Small terriers imported from Britain are also cited in its ancestry. Local selection established a distinct breed, also called rateret and fusterrier.
Usually cheerful and affectionate with familiar people, it enjoys shared activities. It learns quickly and investigates new places, particularly after hearing a rustle or detecting a small animal. It may be more reserved with strangers. It can boldly announce someone’s presence, then return to relaxed family interaction.
