Goldendoodle — size comparison — facts and sources

The Goldendoodle is a Golden Retriever and Poodle cross. Some dogs have stronger bodies, broad heads and wavy coats; others are more slender and distinctly curly. Coat colour and texture also vary. The name does not specify one size: the use of Poodles of different heights has produced both smaller and large Goldendoodles.

These crosses were developed chiefly as companion dogs. Two breeds with retrieving roots were combined without establishing one common standard for the whole population. Later generations include varied matings, including backcrosses to a parent breed. Individual lines can therefore differ considerably in build, coat structure and size.

Many individuals are outgoing with people, active and interested in carrying objects. They readily join shared activities, and some show a strong inclination towards retrieving and scent work. Temperament is nevertheless not a predictable average of Golden Retriever and Poodle traits. Excitability, responses to strangers and ease of settling must be considered for the individual dog; shedding intensity and coat structure remain equally variable.
