Français Tricolore — size comparison — facts and sources
The Français Tricolore is a large, long-legged dog with short hair combining white, black and tan. It is strong without being cumbersome. An elongated head, drooping ears and deep chest give it the appearance of a typical pack hound. Long legs support an expansive stride across large areas.
The breed developed in France for pack hunting of large game. Dogs were selected for sustained work and travelling together without tiring quickly. The Français Tricolore belongs to the French hound breeds established chiefly for this hunting method.
It is active and strongly interested in scent. Outdoors it may range away from people, following a trail and responding to the movement of other dogs. This way of working encourages independence and persistence. Other hounds’ voices can sustain its excitement and encourage it to run with them.
