Megatherium was an enormous ground sloth. It had powerful limbs, large claws and a heavy tail helping support it when rising onto its hind legs.
The NHM describes finds from Argentina, Uruguay and Bolivia and tooth studies indicating herbivory. The illustrated upright posture does not mean it constantly walked like a human.
