Eurohound (European sled-dog type) — size comparison — facts and sources

The Eurohound is a light, athletic sled-sport dog, usually short-haired and long-legged. Appearance varies between lines: ears may drop or partly stand, and colours differ. Free stride, running power and a build capable of sustaining high speed matter most.

This working type developed in European sled sports, particularly Scandinavia. Alaskan dogs were crossed with pointers, often German Shorthaired Pointers. Offspring were selected for speed and teamwork. The name covers different lines and generations rather than one breed with a closed standard. Many specialise in shorter, fast events.

Eurohounds are strongly oriented towards movement and shared effort. In well-selected dogs a desire to run combines with responses to handler signals and maintenance of team pace. Arousal, independence and game interest depend on the line. Working merit is assessed mainly in training and competition, where individual differences become clearly visible.
