The scale compares the named dimensions. View direction and measurement points are given for each animal.
The Drever is a low, strong hound with a long body and relatively short legs. It has drop ears, smooth hair and clear white markings. It looks neither delicate nor miniature; its build combines low height with endurance for hours of movement. Short legs affect working pace without preventing efficient woodland travel.
The breed developed in Sweden from Westphalian Dachsbrackes imported in the early twentieth century. Local hunters valued them chiefly for roe deer, also using them for hares and foxes. The Swedish type developed separately and was slightly larger than the foundation dogs. It received the name Drever in 1947 and was recognised as a separate Swedish breed in 1953.
It is usually balanced in contact but becomes exceptionally persistent on finding scent. It can independently work a difficult trail section for a long time rather than quickly shift attention. It voices while searching, allowing its position to be heard.
