The Dogue Brasileiro is a muscular dog with a broad head, powerful body and short hair. Its build combines strength with free movement. It has a well-developed chest and strong legs. Its appearance remains functional: agile, balanced and capable of a rapid response.
It originated in Brazil through a guard-dog breeding programme. Selection aimed to establish both a particular build and behaviour suited to protecting a home while remaining closely connected to the family. The population received a national CBKC standard. Organised breeding distinguishes it from a casual name for any bull-type cross.
The Brazilian breed description emphasises alertness, confidence and composure. With familiar people it should be sociable, while remaining attentive to environmental changes. It may assess strangers cautiously before relaxing. Attachment to family accompanies interest in who enters familiar territory and how they behave near household members.
