Shunosaurus — size comparison — facts and sources

Shunosaurus was a herbivorous sauropod of Jurassic China. It had four supporting limbs, a long neck and a tail ending in a bony club. This tip, unusual among sauropods, is one of its skeleton’s most recognisable features.

The club may have served in defence, a possibility studied through tail structure and mobility. Numerous finds from Sichuan allow comparisons with other early sauropods and reconstruction of its habitat’s herbivorous fauna.
