Scutosaurus — size comparison — facts and sources

Scutosaurus was a herbivorous pareiasaur from the Late Permian of Russia. Pareiasaurs belonged to a separate branch of ancient reptiles, rather than to dinosaurs or mammal ancestors. It fed in terrestrial ecosystems inhabited by numerous synapsids. The teeth and jaw structure support a plant-based diet but cannot identify every plant species eaten or its seasonal menu.

Well-preserved skeletons have provided important evidence for studies of pareiasaur anatomy. Scutosaurus is often shown as potential prey for large gorgonopsians, but specific hunting scenes remain reconstructions.
