Saltasaurus — size comparison — facts and sources

Saltasaurus was a herbivorous titanosaur of Late Cretaceous Argentina. Like other sauropods, it had a long neck, small head and four supporting limbs. Bony armour elements lay in its skin, distinguishing it from familiar images of long-necked dinosaurs.

Associating these plates with sauropod remains changed earlier interpretations of isolated bones. It lived in a South American landscape whose rivers and seasonal changes are recorded in sediments. Nests of other titanosaurs help compare reproduction within the group, but are not direct evidence of Saltasaurus nesting.
