Pterodactylus — size comparison — facts and sources

Pterodactylus was a Late Jurassic pterosaur known chiefly from limestone around Solnhofen, Germany. Pterosaurs were a separate flying-reptile lineage, distinct from dinosaurs and birds. They inhabited islands and shallow lagoons. Exceptional depositional conditions preserved even delicate skeletal elements.

Differently aged individuals sometimes received separate names, with later revisions combining some. Diet and small-prey capture are inferred from anatomy; the species’ complete behaviour remains unknown.
