Plateosaurus — size comparison — facts and sources

Plateosaurus was a herbivore of Late Triassic Europe. It had a small head on an elongated neck, powerful hind legs and a long tail. Limb structure indicates bipedal movement.

The genus was named as early as 1837, before Dinosauria was formally introduced. Rich finds at Trossingen and Frick permit studies of growth and locomotion. Extensive bone accumulations may have resulted from successive animals becoming trapped in soft ground.
