Mononykus — size comparison — facts and sources

Mononykus lived in Late Cretaceous Mongolia. Its specialised limbs are interpreted as tools for accessing hidden food, often insects. It may have excavated insect colonies, but its actual diet remains poorly known.

The genus name had to change because the earlier form was already used for a beetle. Incomplete remains complicate anatomical reconstruction. Some material formerly assigned to Mononykus has been transferred to other alvarezsaurid genera.
