Megalosaurus — size comparison — facts and sources

Megalosaurus inhabited Middle Jurassic landscapes in present-day England. It was a carnivore whose ecological role is reconstructed from scattered remains and associated animals. No complete skeleton is known, limiting confidence about movement and daily behaviour.

In 1824 it became the first formally named dinosaur, before the term Dinosauria itself was established. Interpretations changed repeatedly, and for a time many finds belonging to other theropods were assigned to it.
