Ischigualastia was a herbivorous dicynodont of Late Triassic Argentine floodplains. It belonged to synapsids, the lineage including mammals and their extinct relatives. It had a massive skull and stocky quadrupedal body.
Early dinosaurs already inhabited its environment, but large herbivores from other groups remained important. Seasonal rain changed plant and water availability. Its genus name refers to the Ischigualasto Formation.
The species was described in 1962 from skull material and part of the skeleton.
