Huayangosaurus was a herbivorous dinosaur of Middle Jurassic present-day China. An early stegosaur, it walked on four legs and bore bony plates and spikes.

Sichuan remains document an earlier evolutionary stage than the familiar Late Jurassic stegosaurs. Preserved bones permit comparisons of changes in limb, skull and armour proportions. Sauropods and carnivorous theropods also lived in the region.
