Herrerasaurus was a predator of Late Triassic Argentina. It hunted in landscapes supporting many other reptile groups before dinosaurs dominated most terrestrial ecosystems. It walked on two legs and caught prey with sharp-toothed jaws.
The species was named in 1963 for Victorino Herrera, who helped discover its fossils. Later Ischigualasto finds yielded considerably more complete material than the first fragments.
