Gryposaurus was a large hadrosaur with a characteristically arched upper snout. This nasal prominence distinguishes it from relatives with tall, hollow crests. A broad beak and teeth gathered and processed plants in Late Cretaceous terrestrial environments.

Known skeletons permit more detailed anatomical study than in many species represented only by fragments. This does not mean complete knowledge of colouring and communication.
