Gigantoraptor — size comparison — facts and sources

Gigantoraptor was an exceptionally large oviraptorosaur from the Late Cretaceous of Asia. It lived in present-day Inner Mongolia, China. It may have used both plants and animal food. This diet is a hypothesis based on jaw structure and comparisons with relatives, rather than preserved stomach contents.

The discovery of a large limb bone was initially associated with a sauropod; further excavation revealed a quite different group. Its 2007 description greatly expanded the known diversity of oviraptorosaurs. Growth studies indicate that the known individual was still increasing in size. No complete skull survives, and the presence and distribution of feathers in the illustration remain a cautious interpretation.
